Life Of a Traveler : Washington DC

Life Of a Traveler

Washington DC

AUGUST 2015

Happy Monday everyone 🙂 I hope you all had a nice halloween weekend with your friends & families. It’s been hectic around the Handlebar Studios office with weddings, engagement sessions, meeting and editing. We know that we have been a little lax lately about blogging and so we decided that today would be a great day to share with you something a little personal.

If you have been following the blog, you know that we have been doing a lot of travel lately. I (Stephanie) own Handlebar Studios and my hubby Nick owns Motivity Films. Between the two companies we stay busy and often travel to some pretty amazing locations for weddings. Back in August, we had the opportunity to shoot a wedding video for a fellow videographer Cate and her awesome husband Neal. Their wedding sent us back east to Kitty Hawk and since it was our first time on the east coast we decided to take an extra couple days to see some sights. You can find part 1 – Williamsburg VA.  or Part 2 – Jamestown VA. & Kitty Hawk NC.  on the blog as well but today I want to talk about part 3… Washington DC!

We arrived in Washington in the early evening after driving all the way from Kitty Hawk NC. We only had a few days here so we wanted to make the most of it. Slightly exhausted we headed out on foot from our hotel only to get lost. Not too badly at least! Using our phones we were able to re-navigate and get where we wanted. The Lincoln Memorial. It was so beautiful! We got there right as the sun was dipping down and the lights were coming on. Very few things in Washington actually made me feel really patriotic and this was defiantly one of them. It made me think about all that this county has gone through and how we have stood up for ourselves and our freedoms and I truly am proud to be an American.

We ended up wandering around a little before calling it a night. We had a lot to tackle the next day!

The sun rose bright and early and so did we. The main things we wanted to tackle were the museums and the White House. the white house was neat but more of just a photo op. You take your photo and just move on. We decided to head over to see the Declaration of Independence , Bill of Rights & Constitution which are held in the National Archives Museum. They don’t allow photos in many museums but it was so wonderful being able to see an important piece of American History.

After a quick lunch out on “The Mall” we decided to check out the Smithsonian buildings. There are SO MANY!!! I used to think that there was just one. Nope! We were defiantly not prepared (or had the time) to see them all so we picked just a few we though we would enjoy the most.

On our Last day in Washington DC we decided to head over to the Arlington Cemetery and see the Tomb of the unknown soldier. This was probably the other patriotic moment I had while in Washington DC. If you have never been there, please go! You won’t regret it. After seeing the Unknown Soldier tomb we checked out the Kennedy family graves before leaving.

Our last stop was the Marine Corps War Memorial : Iwo Jima Statue. This was actually a surprise to me…there was literally no one there.  For such a beautiful and well known moment I expected there to be crowds. I really liked seeing this monument though and when in DC you should check it out!

The next morning we hopped on a plane back to Los Angeles. We were ready to be home but we knew we would only have 1 week before getting on another plane to Europe. This was the vacation we had been planning for years and we were so excited! Keep following us here on the blog where we will be going to Germany in our next travel post.

Until next time… XOXOXO

Stephanie
