Life of a Traveler
Cochem Germany
It was still our first day in Europe and we had more to do! If you haven’t checked out the first half of the day, CLICK HERE where you can read about Eltz Castle. After touring Eltz Castle we got back in our rental car and drove along the Mosel river until we got to Cochem (said like Coke-em). Cochem is an adorable town… Just think of quaint german villages with sidewalk cafes and of course… another castle! Reichsburg castle was our first stop. After finding a place to park we walked through the town until we finally located the tourist office. We purchased bus tickets to take us to the top of the hill where the castle was. We really had only one reason for stoping at this castle and that was the falconry show. It was really awesome! The birds flew all around us and even landed on Nick’s and my dad’s head. The most amazing part was when the birds would dive bomb us from the top of the castle, coming straight at us. It went right between our shoulders and I just knew it was going to hit us. Instead, right at the last second, it pulled it’s wings in and barely brushed us.
Not only was the Falconry Show amazing but the castle had a beautiful view to the city below. One of the main things one visiting the castle will notice is the statue of a lion wearing a helmet and visor much like a knight. I don’t see the lion at all (more like a frog) but he still stands guard looking out over Cochem day and night.
Since we only came for the falconry show and we didn’t have much time, we didn’t tour this castle. However, the grounds are beautiful and if I ever return I think I would defiantly go inside!
This castle had a ton of cute and quirky details like the image below. The stone wall that went around the castle had a dragon head at one end and tail on the other. How cute is that?!?!
Stay tuned for next time when we travel along the Rhine River on a day cruise.
Until next time… XOXO
Stephanie
looks like an amazing trip!
