Our New Office

Happy monday everyone! As some of you know already, we just moved out to the Temescal Valley. Don’t know where that is? Basically its Corona, CA. and we were able to get a place where we can have a in home office and meeting space! We still have to move around furniture and change it up a bit but really I wanted to share with you our AMAZING Ikea Finnby Hack & Pallet Wall!!

We really wanted something that showed off our style and hold albums, our old Cameras and decorate up the room a bit. check it out!!!

Its beautiful right??? I mean… GORGEOUS!

I can’t believe how great this turned out. It was just like I saw it in my head only slightly better 🙂

Originally we drew the whole thing out and tried to come up with a plan. It was simple but where to get the items? IKEA of course! We looked at the Billy book cases but didnt want to spend more money then we had to so instead we went with the Finnby. They are shorter than I would have liked but there’s always a fix for everything.

We put together the bookcases first and Nick made a little boo boo. He put the back cardboard lining on upside-down. He was just about to take it off and I told him to stop! I kinda preferred the brown leather like look of the back side to the plain black of the front. Mistakes are sometimes a good thing! Anyhow, after all 4 were put together we placed two on each side of the wall leaving a gap in between for the pallet section.

With wood shims we screwed them together and used the base of a pallet to bring them up off the floor (obviously cutting them to fit and making a box for the shelves to sit on)

The second step was to  make a 2×4 frame/box for the middle section and then to cover it with pallet wood. This was a pain because you have to cut all the wood apart first and then figure out the best order to attach it to the wall. Some pieces were wider than others so we sorted them by width and tried to spread it out so that all the wide boards didn’t end up at the bottom and little ones at the top. image5image1image4

After the pallet section was completely covered with wood, it was time to trim out the rest of the book cases.

There were 2 problems… not enough light and the bookcases were still too short. After pinning the heck out of pinterest we decided that one fix would solve both problems! We were going to add a “decorative box” to the top of the Finnby bookcases and on the front we would hang some lights! Ikea lights in fact! Hektar is the name of the lamp and can be found here. After a little bit of trim & Moulding the wall was done and with just a few screws we secured it to the wall – We are in Southern California so we don’t want it to fall over in an earthquake.

The best part is that Nick was able to add in 2 shelves! Now I have a place to store some stuff AND keep the room nice and clean. If you were wondering, the metal bars/handles are an old curtain rod and is being held up by leather from an old belt. Re-Use & Re-Purpose. Gotta love it.

Thanks Everyone! We are so thrilled with the way it turned out. Next thing we have to do is add some more seating and a coffee table so that we can have a legit meeting space. I can’t wait to see how this all comes together. It has been an exciting journey. Also, this is a great project for renters as well since we only screwed it to the wall in a few locations ( just to secure it for a quake )
