The Beauty Of Film Photography

The Beauty Of Film Photography

Recently, I have been shooting film. Yes! Old fashioned film that you have to wind. The kind that you only get 10-16 shots per roll… and I love it! It’s hard to say what it is about film that makes it so beautiful. There is a richness, a depth and a softness that is so much more realistic and pleasing to the eye. For those who don’t know, there are different kinds of film. The one most people think of is 35mm. With a 35mm camera, you get about 36 shots per roll and the negative is fairly small. There is nothing wrong with 35mm film but I choose to go for medium format. The Film is larger so you get more detail and depth to the image which is what I love. With Medium format you get anywhere from 10 to 16 shots per roll and this depends on the exact camera you have.  Anyhow, I am going to show you some photos taken a few weeks back, shot on 2 different cameras.

The first, I was shooting (Stephanie) and it was a Pentax 645n with Portra 400 Film rated at 200. There are a few that I should have rated at 100 because we were shooting into the sun which means you need to over expose the image a LOT.

Next up is Nick’s images. He was using the Hasselblad 500c. You can tell that his camera is different because the images are square unlike the Pentax photos.
